a Band named Brian

Biography
Singer songwriter Brian Madigan (AKA a Band named Brian) is on a two wheeled mission to save the planet. Accompanied by violinist/bassist Rob Whale, they are cycling from venue to venue, raising environmental awareness – and spirits – through the medium of song. Two parts Billy Bragg to one Part Levelers, with a hint of Johnny Cash and a sprinkling of Tom Lehrer: you’ll laugh, you’ll cry… you may even dance!
Brian’s songs and the stories behind them are crammed full of passion, wit and wisdom, his influences are wide-ranging, but his voice is very much his own. Combining social comment with humour, the songs are hard-hitting yet relatable. His shows are at once intimate, challenging and great fun.
Whether in a small arts venue or on a theatre stage, Brian instantly engages his audience and takes them on a journey of self-discovery. As Bath Fringe Hub put it, this is “never the average songwriter showcase”. Rather, a Band named Brian gig is something to savour and remember.
A renowned composer, performer and educator, Brian has appeared on drums with alt-folk maestros ‘Rivers of England’, folk-rock supergroup ‘Madigan’ and psych-acoustic legends ‘Wise Wound’, amongst others. Composing credits include film, advertising, theatre, dance and digital media. But Brian’s purest form of self-expression remains song writing. And the best way to experience that is to catch him live.
