Brian Madigan has been active as a professional musician and composer since graduating from Middlesex Poly in 1991. His career has seen him work as dance accompanist, workshop leader, film score writer, theatre composer, jingle-monkey, mentor, educational entrepreneur, drummer, percussionist, teacher and singer-songwriter.
Collaborations have included Ian B MacDonald‘s award winning short, ‘Billy’s Day Out‘, theatre productions with Andy Burden (Innerroom), Jon Nicholson and Mark Bishop (Big State Theatre)and animation projects with Moving House (now A Large Evil Corporation).
Brian has performed alongside jazz legend Jason Yarde, folk heroes Henry Seers, Bill Jones and Jenny Crook, rock-god Innes SIbun, Gas Giant Tony Orrell and guitar guru Bert Weedon. His first studio session was produced by Tony Burrows, who – besides being an in-demand session singer during the 60s and 70s claims to have been the voice the iconic Honey Monster ads! And there was even a brief collaboration with Sooty (really).
During the 90s, Brian was a member of cult psychedelic-folk outfit Wisewound, later joining Crook, Seers and Harrison to form Madigan. More recently , he was on drumming duties with Bath-based RnB/funksters Plucky Purcell and is a current member of alt-folk combo Rivers of England.
Alongside all of this, Brian runs a successful dance-education business, Dance Notes, which provides music and teaching resources to primary schools, both in the UK and overseas. Recently, he helped set up the charity Make a Move, which works with people that have learning, social or psychological difficulties (picking up where government funding left off). Last year, Brian also performed in Rosemary Lee’s reworking of Meltdown for Bath festival.
